The Experience Questionnaire: Mike O’Malley

Mike O’Malley is an actor and writer who has appeared in “Glee,”  “Yes, Dear,” and “The Good Place.” He was the creator and executive producer of the Starz series “Survivor’s Remorse.” 

Where do you come up with your best ideas? 
In my head. 

What is the best non-material gift you’ve received? 
Life. 

What is the best non-material gift you’ve given? 
Attention. 

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced? 
Multiple root canals. 

If you had to choose a different profession, what would you do?
Professional baseball player. 

“Avoid Sister Irmalita when she’s mad.”

What is the most useful mistake you’ve made? 
Rooting for the Boston Red Sox from 1975–2003. 

What’s the strangest experience you’ve had? 
Attempting to learn tap dancing for a required class in college.  

What opportunity do you regret passing up? 
Avoiding that tap dancing class.  

How do you relax? 
Sleeping.  

If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?  
To my bed. To sleep. 

What is your most indelible childhood memory?  
Growing up in my neighborhood in New Hampshire.  

What’s the most valuable thing you learned in school?  
“Avoid Sister Irmalita when she’s mad.” 

When you’re stuck how do you get unstuck? 
Take a walk. 

What is your proudest moment? 
Every time my kids smile. 

What would you like to experience before you die?  
Heaven. So I know it’s there.
